Happy February! Today, I’m sharing a new heart pattern just in time for Valentine’s Day! If you haven’t checked out the Heart Coasters from last week, make sure you do! Both these patterns are quick, easy, and use minimal yarn! This Heart Pot Holder crochet pattern uses 2 strands of cotton held together, making it thick and durable! It’ll work perfect for hot dishes or just looking cute in the kitchen. Try using different colors or different materials for the hanging loop!

Finished size approximately 8.5″ x 8.5″

Gauge

Gauge is not important for this project but you can follow the gauge below if you want your pot holder to be the exact size of mine.

5 stitches by 6 rows in SC = 2” by 2” square.
Adjust hook size up or down to meet gauge.

Notes

● This project is worked in rows. The CH 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a ST.
● The number in parenthesis at the end of each row represents the total number of stitches to be worked in that row.

Supplies

● 2 strands held together of Medium (4) Weight Cotton Yarn
Approx. 1.5 oz / 72 yards (I used: Lily Sugar’n Cream)
● Hook: 6.50 mm (K)
Yarn Needle
Scissors

CH 2

Row 1: SC in 2nd CH from hook (1)

Row 2: CH 1 & turn. 3 SC (3)

Row 3: CH 1 & turn. 2 SC in the 1st ST, SC in the next, 2 SC in the last ST (5)

Row 4: CH 1 & turn. 2 SC in the 1st ST, SC in the next 3 STs, 2 SC in the last ST (7)

Row 5: CH 1 & turn. 2 SC in the 1st ST, SC in the next 5 STs, 2 SC in the last ST (9)

Row 6: CH 1 & turn. SC in each ST across (9)

Row 7: CH 1 & turn. 2 SC in the 1st ST, SC in the next 7 STs, 2 SC in the last ST (11)

Row 8: CH 1 & turn. 2 SC in the 1st ST, SC in the next 9 STs, 2 SC in the last ST (13)

Row 9: CH 1 & turn. 2 SC in the 1st ST, SC in the next 11 STs, 2 SC in the last ST (15)

Row 10: CH 1 & turn. SC in each ST across (15)

Row 11: CH 1 & turn. 2 SC in the 1st ST, SC in the next 13 STs, 2 SC in the last ST (17)

Row 12: CH 1 & turn. 2 SC in the 1st ST, SC in the next 15 STs, 2 SC in the last ST (19)

Rows 13 & 15: CH 1 & turn. SC in each ST across (19)

Right Bump

Row 16: CH 1 & turn. SC in the next 8 STs, SC2TOG (9)

Row 17: CH 1 & turn. SC in the next 7 STs, SC2TOG (8)

Row 18: CH 1 & turn. SC2TOG, SC in the next 4 STs, SC2TOG(6)

Row 19: CH 1 & turn. SC in the next 4 STs, SC2TOG (5)

Row 20: CH 1 & turn. SC2TOG, SC in next ST, SC2TOG (3)

Row 21: CH & turn. SC3TOG (1)

Tie off yarn, leaving a long enough tail to leave in later (approx. 5″). Reattach yarn to the opposite side of Row 15.

Left Bump

Row 16: SC in each of the next 8 STs, SC2TOG working in the last unworked ST of this row and the next ST beside it (9)

Row 17: CH 1 & turn. SC in the next 7 STs, SC2TOG (8)

Row 18: CH 1 & turn. SC2TOG, SC in the next 4 STs, SC2TOG(6)

Row 19: CH 1 & turn. SC in the next 4 STs, SC2TOG (5)

Row 20: CH 1 & turn. SC2TOG, SC in next ST, SC2TOG (3)

Row 21: CH & turn. SC3TOG (1)

Do not tie off.

Border

CH 1, Work 2 SC in the same ST you’re currently in. SC down the left side of the heart, working 1 SC into each row down. In the last ST (the point of the heart), [SC, CH 2, SC] to create a pointed tip. SC back up the right side of the heart. At the top of the heart (the right bump), work 2 SC in the last row. SC in the top ST, 2 SC in the next row, then SC in each row down the right bump then back up the left bump. Work 2 SC in the last row, SC in the top ST, then SL ST to the first SC worked for the border.

Hanging Loop

CH 10, SL ST into base of CH. Tie off yarn, and weave in all ends.

Loop can be adjusted by making your chain longer or shorter.
You can also use other materials for your hanging loop such as suede lace, leather, ribbon, or string!
